Moxie Media’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
In partnership with organizations and individuals fighting for equity for under-represented people, we are committed to accomplishing regular, measurable, and meaningful action to end systemic oppression, including racism, sexism, ageism, the oppression of LGBTQ+ persons, and the subjugation of people with physical or cognitive differences.
We listen and learn as much as we can about what it is like to exist in the U.S. as a person of color, gender minority, religious and/or ethnic minority, cognitive difference, physical disability, and persons of early or advanced age. This is made possible by authentic and direct relationships developed over time with under-represented people in our communities and industry, and through active listening to individuals of difference on our team.
We practice and train. Specifically, we complete regular training with expert facilitators and continued education in our personal time for our ongoing learning.
We admit mistakes and change. When discovered, we strive to change harmful behaviors (conscious or unconscious) upheld in our firm. We make the change on a policy level and put it into practice with accountability among our team.
We are transparent with policy and behavior changes and communicate these at regularly held all-team meetings and in our company manual. In this way, we make the most current understanding of how we work accessible to everyone on our team, regardless of status (contractor and employee) or position in our organization. This communication reinforces new behaviors as we speak out loud about our willingness to make mistakes, own them, and continue on in our work to end oppression.
We hire and retain people of color, LGBTQ+ persons, and disabled persons at all levels of our organization. We maintain this commitment when helping recruit managers for political campaigns and staff members for progressive non-profit and political action organizations. Retaining all valued team members is important to us and we ask for, learn, and incorporate strategies for how to supervise equitably while building a leadership ladder that will support the long-term growth of a multiracial multicultural staff.
We resist. As a majority white women-owned and white women-led firm, we are aware of the practice of white saviordom common among white women in leadership and we fiercely resist it. Also, we reject the tokenizing of diversity, equity, and inclusive that can happen in companies with complacent leadership.
We give back. As an established firm with exceptional outcomes, we are mindful that our success is directly aided by the contributions of our allies and activists. With deep gratitude and respect, we give back to our shared movements by contributing our pro-bono expertise and revenue to non-profit organizations that align with our progressive political priorities and core values. In particular, we seek to support organizations with marginalized leadership and/or missions critical to ending systemic oppression.
