<p>GENERAL FUNCTION<br />
Supports young adults with experience in foster care in developing the skills to live independently. Provides specialized support to young adults in education, employment/career development, experiential learning or other designated field. Develops strong collaborative community relationships and provides extensive information and referral services. Creates a welcoming and supportive environment in the YMCA Center for Young Adults.</p>
<p>KNOW HOW (minimum qualifications)<br />
Bachelor&#8217;s degree and three years experience or Master&#8217;s degree with a minimum of one year of working with teens or young adults experience, or equivalent.<br />
• Minimum three years experience working with teens or young adults in foster care, group care, housing, education, juvenile justice, anti-poverty, vocational support, mental health, chemical dependency and/or homelessness.<br />
• Ability to teach effective independence skills for a variety of learning styles and to plan supportive activities.<br />
• Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills.<br />
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.<br />
• Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.<br />
• Ability to transport self and client(s) in a safe and effective manner, and to meet clients at community locations; proof of adequate vehicle insurance coverage is required, or ability to travel to areas without public transportation.</p>
<p>• Current state approved First Aid and CPR certification.*<br />
• Current approved HIV blood borne pathogens training.*<br />
• Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.</p>
<p>PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES<br />
• Provides specialized services to young adults in education, employment/career development, experiential learning or other designated field and supports them in achieving goals.<br />
• Build strong relationships with Center members to effectively provide quality services.<br />
• Develops individualized, strength-based, youth-driven service plans.<br />
• Researches best practices in field; creates and maintains specialized resource library.<br />
• Maintains clear, professional, timely participant contact notes, service plans, progress updates and other documentation.<br />
• Teaches life skills individually and/or in groups. Teams effectively and collaboratively with YMCA staff and/or community partners to plan and facilitate activities, including visits to related resources in the community.</p>
<p>• Teams effectively with YMCA staff, caregivers and community providers.<br />
• Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with community providers, businesses and/or educational institutions as related to specialized services.<br />
• Ongoing analysis to ensure participants are served appropriately and contract outcomes attained. Maintains relationships with funding sources, as appropriate.<br />
• Supports participant successful employment and/or completion of school.<br />
• Participates in YMCA annual Partners with Youth fundraising campaign. Engages and supports volunteers and community members in the YMCA mission.</p>

<p><strong><em>Location and Demographics: </em></strong>The UniServ Representative will be assigned to work in the 4th Corner UniServ Council and occasionally throughout the state depending on the needs of the state-wide organization. WEA Fourth Corner UniServ serves over 4800 members within 32 local education associations emerging from 25 school districts. The Council is committed to meeting the economic and professional needs of their membership to ensure that public education is the best that it can be. The Council office is located in Bellingham, Washington, the twelfth largest city in the state, approximately 90 miles north of Seattle.</p>
<p><strong><em>Responsibilities:</em></strong></p>
<p>Primary responsibilities of the position:</p>
<p>· Incumbent will assist the WEA in the development and implementation of systems, programs and organizational strategies that create a member-driven culture of organizing and advance the goals of WEA’s Comprehensive Strategic Plan.</p>
<p>· Incumbent will assist the WEA, through cross-functional collaboration, in developing and delivering the dynamic organizing trainings for leaders, members and staff that will support organizing campaigns.</p>
<p>· Organize to build a strong union at every local worksite consistent with the WEA Comprehensive Strategic Direction. This position will assist the organization in building and exercising power at the state and local level.</p>
<p>· Help facilitate the creation of local organizing structures that build capacity, full member engagement and mobilization around identified local and state issues.</p>
<p>· Participate in developing and delivering programs for Leader, Member and Staff growth and development goals.</p>
<p>· Assist and/or coordinate the training of staff at the local, regional and state levels.</p>
<p>· Support of state and local advocacy efforts as assigned, including, but not limited to:</p>
<p>o Participate in developing and delivering local, regional and statewide member, leader and staff trainings, relating to issues with member rights, advocacy, collective bargaining, bargaining campaigns, leadership and organizational development, strategic planning, internal organizing, community organizing and new member organizing.</p>
<p>o Work with leaders and staff to develop organizing and action plans and assist in execution and review of these plans.</p>
<p>o Contract maintenance including grievance processing and maintenance.</p>
<p>o Local association bargaining support.</p>
<p>o Instruction and professional development activities.</p>
<p>o Membership recruitment and development.</p>
<p>o Organization/leadership development.</p>
<p>o Political action.</p>

<p>· Establish and maintain positive working relationships with Council leadership, local leaders, staff, and the WEA management.</p>
<p>· Provide counsel and advice to leadership and members.</p>
<p>· Work effectively as a team with other staff in carrying out the assigned responsibilities.</p>
<p>· Work collaboratively with staff, work teams, locals/districts and community groups where appropriate.</p>
<p>· Develop organizing activities within the local that assist locals and members in achieving their goals and the goals of the Washington Education Association.</p>
<p>· Support and advance the WEA mission, goal, core values and priorities.</p>
<p>· Promote and support education restructuring and reform. Facilitate organizational change at the local and state level.</p>
<p>· May be assigned the responsibility to collect and provide necessary information and direction regarding the Council’s political and legislative activities.</p>
<p>· Ability to participate in trainings identified by WEA.</p>
<p>· Provide staff liaison/serve on WEA committees as assigned. Participate in WEA shared staffing assignments, including assignments throughout the State of Washington.</p>
<p>· Regularly attend and participate in WEA staff meetings.</p>
<p>· Complete other duties as assigned.</p>

<p>· Ability to work with other WEA staff in regional coalitions that focus on member organizing efforts while working collaboratively with leaders, governance, and WEA partners.</p>
<p>· Ability to create and act within WEA member engagement projects to highlight “how to” leadership in organizing (building capacity at every layer of the organization).</p>
<p>· Ability to participate in organizing efforts within the AOC while completing field-based demonstration projects and general advocacy support.</p>
<p>· Ability to establish, track and assess metrics (data) related to organizing goals and membership objectives. Ability to deliver and communicate about complex member-related data and data associated with building a WEA organizing culture.</p>
<p>· Ability to organize and mobilize others (both internal and external) around WEA’s public policy efforts.</p>
<p>· Ability to work in a self-directed and efficient manner, maintaining calm under pressure.</p>
<p>· Ability to think creatively to resolve problems, issues, and conflict.</p>
<p>· Ability to deliver WEA trainings.</p>
<p>· Experience or training in traditional and interest-based bargaining and the ability to train members in either style.</p>
<p>· Ability to travel both in and outside the State of Washington.</p>
<p>· Ability to obtain a valid Washington State driver&#8217;s license, satisfactory driving record, and have a dependable automobile for Association travel. Proof of automobile insurance with liability limits of at least $100,000/$300,000 required.</p>
<p>· Willingness to take temporary assignments in other state locations as required by the work.</p>
<p>· Ability to compose documents under pressure; strong ability to communicate verbally, in writing and through various media.</p>
<p><strong><em>Preferred Job Requirements:</em></strong></p>
<p>· 5 or more years working as an organizer in an education union setting.</p>
<p>· 5 or more years’ experience with internal, new member and/or community organizing.</p>
<p>· Experience as an education employee, or working directly with education employees.</p>
<p>· Staff or Association leader experience in education associations, local, state or national school employee organizations, or professional organizations.</p>
<p>· Knowledge and experience in educational reform issues and community organizing.</p>
<p>· Knowledge of special programs, i.e., special education, bilingual, gifted, etc.</p>
